What You’ll Need

Before we start, grab a few basic items you probably already have at home:

  • Soft microfiber cloths or paper towels

  • A non-abrasive sponge

  • Dish soap

  • Baking soda

  • White vinegar (in a spray bottle if possible)

  • A plastic scraper or old credit card (optional but helpful)

⚠️ Avoid these: steel wool, metal scrapers, and anything rough that might scratch the surface.

Let the Stove Top Cool Completely

Never try to clean a hot stove top.

Even a warm surface can cause burns or damage your cleaning tools.

Wait until the glass or ceramic top is cool to the touch before starting.

Wipe Away Loose Debris

Start with a dry wipe using a microfiber cloth to remove crumbs, dust, or loose food.

This prevents anything from scratching the surface during cleaning.

Apply a Vinegar Spray

Spray white vinegar generously over the stove top.

It helps cut through grease and breaks down light grime.

Let it sit for about 2–3 minutes, then wipe it off with a damp cloth.

Use Baking Soda for Tough Spots

If you see burnt-on stains or gunk that won't come off, sprinkle baking soda over those areas.

Then, lay a damp warm cloth or paper towel over the baking soda for 10–15 minutes.

This softens the grime without damaging the glass surface.

After that, use a soft sponge to gently scrub the spot.

Always go in a circular motion and don’t press too hard.

Scrape Stubborn Residue (Optional)

For extra-tough spots, use a plastic scraper or an old plastic card.

Hold it at a 45-degree angle and gently scrape without digging into the surface.

This is safe for ceramic glass stove tops — but don’t use metal.

Final Polish with Vinegar

Once the surface is clean, spray vinegar again and wipe it with a dry microfiber cloth.

This removes any leftover streaks and leaves your stove shiny.

How Often Should You Clean It?

  • Light wipe: after each use

  • Deep clean: once a week (or as needed)

  • Heavy-duty scrub: if you notice burnt-on food or discoloration

Keep Your Stove Top Cleaner Longer

Here are two easy habits to help keep your flat electric stove top looking fresh:

  • Cover pots while cooking – to reduce splatter.
